The U.S. Army has agreed to postpone the closures of three Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC)programs in Tennessee.

East Tennessee State University, Tennessee Technological University, and University of Tennessee Martin were among the 13 colleges that were on the list, but on Wednesday, U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander announced the Army would delay the closures for two years to allow the school's time to improve the programs to meet the Army's current needs.

"These programs have produced some of our nation's outstanding military leaders," Alexander said. "This is a major victory for students at these Tennessee schools, and I thank Congressmen Roe, Black and Fincher and Senator Corker for their leadership."
