U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander visited the Erwin National Fish Hatchery for the first time since he helped secure funding which will keep the facility open for at least three more years.

In May, The Erwin Record reported that an agreement between TVA and federal and state wildlife agencies provided the funding to keep the Erwin hatchery, as well as the Dale Hollow Hatchery, open for the near future. Budget woes threatened to close both hatcheries.

During his visit to Unicoi County on Wednesday, Aug. 28, Alexander praised the TVA for the company’s support of the hatcheries.
